Let’s take a look at five of the best Master of Laws programs the UK has to offer.
LLM – University of Cambridge
This is a one-year full-time LLM course, highly competitive course offered at the University of Cambridge. Specialist areas include Law of the World Trade Organisation, Law of Armed Conflict, Use of Force and Peace Keeping, International Financial Law, and History of English Civil and Criminal Law. If you are planning on attending the LLM at the University of Cambridge be aware of law academics going onto research leave as this can mean that some specialisms do not run that year and it might be worth waiting a year for the perfect course.
LLM – London School of Economics
The Law Department is one of the largest department’s at the London School of Economics, and their 1-year full-time LLM course offers a range of subject areas. Specialisms include International Business Law, Human Rights Law, European Law, and Public Law. However, students do not have to focus on one area in particular and are free to combine modules to tailor their LLM to their future career plans.
LLM – University College London
There is a large element of research in the University College London's LLM course, and students spend time developing their research and critical thinking skills. Modules include topics like Environmental Lawyering, Competition Law Enforcement in Europe, Bioethics Governance, Aspects of National Security and Religion, State and Law. Students usually study the LLM course in one year on a full-time basis.
LLM – King's College London
The LLM course at King's College London has eight specialisms; International Business Law, International Tax Law, Transnational Law, International Dispute Resolution, International Financial Law, European Law, Intellectual Property and Information Law and Competition Law. Students can also choose to follow a general LLM program following any combination of modules. This LLM course can be studied part time in two years or full time in one year.
General LLM – University of Edinburgh
The University of Edinburgh offers a wide selection of LLM programs both on campus and online. Students on the General LLM can take pieces from different programs to combine to create a course that reflects their career aims and plans. Modules include Contract Law in Europe, Mental Health and Crime, Human Rights, and Medical Negligence. Students usually study the General LLM on campus in one year on a full-time basis, but part-time options are available.
