6 Reasons To Study An LLM In Oil & Gas Law
An LLM in Oil and Gas Law has the potential to open your career up and provide you with opportunities for an international base if you want.
There is high demand for talented graduates in almost every field of the oil and gas industries and those offering specialised legal advice are no different. Here are six great reasons why you should opt for this specialism.
1. You'll have a potential future in a wide range of career paths
Once you've decided to specialise in the oil and gas industry your future plans won't be confined to one area. The whole sector requires legal advice including areas such as regulation, governance, operations, technical advice and even on a simple administrative front.
2. High demand for legal expertise in the Oil and Gas industries
Like many fields, there is a high demand for lawyers with special expertise and in a sector worth £20 billion a year in the UK there is especially high demand. With new techniques in the exploration and drilling of gas and oil along with the ever-increasing need for new oil and gas fields, there is increasing global regulation and treaties to cover where and how oil and gas companies can operate.
3. You can have an international career
If you already live in an area that has a large oil and gas industry, then you will probably be in luck as your local law school will probably offer an LLM in Oil and Gas Law – like the University of Houston's Law School, However, if you fancy having a career with the potential to work around the world, you'll find that there are very few oil and gas companies that don't operate on almost every corner of the world.
4. Work in a complex and challenging area of the law
The constantly changing regulations regarding exploration and production along with the changing demands on the products that come from crude oil, like plastics and fuel, means that Oil and Gas Law has become increasingly complicated. Combined with the international nature of oil and gas exploration and production means that a single project might have to deal with the regulations and law across several nations.
5. Opportunities for international or online study
If you want to study abroad, then an LLM in Oil and Gas Law might be for you. Your fellow international students, along with the local students on your course, might become some of your colleagues in the future. A number of institutions, the University of Aberdeen offers fantastic LLM programs in Oil and Gas Law online allowing you to fit in your study around your current job.
6. An LLM in Oil and Gas Law will advance your career
It's not just the transferable skills that you will learn when studying at a postgraduate level. It's also the other students you meet outside of your course. Most law schools that offer an LLM in Oil and Gas Law do so because the institution is already heavily involved in training students to work in the many varied fields involved in oil and gas exploration and production. This means that those students you meet when you're not studying might just be your colleagues in the oil and gas industry in the future.

I have loved your LLM Oil and Gas Program. I have already been admitted at CAVENDISH UNIVERSITY for LLM distance learning program, here in Uganda.
I just find to find out from you whether I can transfer to your University for LLM Oil and Gas programme. Here I am yet to select the specialization field, and I was considering the same course.
What are your conditions in terms of fees for both residence and distance learning.
Kind Regards;
Santos
