Our world-class faculty balance careers as formidable experts in their respective fields while simultaneously fostering an encouraging, supportive learning environment centered around inclusion and accessibility.
Curriculum & Course Offerings
UCLA Law takes an interdisciplinary approach to legal studies, boasting a dynamic, flexible curriculum that appeals to a broad range of interests. LL.M. students can pursue general or specialized studies in a wide variety of fields and may even develop an individualized specialization in an area of their choosing. UCLA offers specializations in:
- Business, with tracks in:
- Business Law
- Securities Regulation
- Bankruptcy
- Tax
- Media, Entertainment, Technology, and Sports Law and Policy
- International and Comparative Law
- Environmental Law
- Human Rights
- Public Interest Law and Policy
- Law and Sexuality
- Critical Race Studies
- Law and Philosophy
For those interested in an area of the law not represented among our existing specializations, they may propose a self-designed course of study. Past students have done so in fields ranging from criminal justice to health law to litigation, and more.
LL.M. students may supplement their specialized studies with courses from other areas of interest to achieve their unique academic goals. Those who do not specialize may select courses from any area of the curriculum. Students can also enhance their legal education by taking complementary courses from departments outside of the law school, such as the Anderson School of Management.
Students seeking eligibility to practice in California, New York, or elsewhere in the United States will find numerous resources and extensive support to help navigate this complex process. UCLA Law offers many courses in subjects tested on state bar exams, including versions tailored specifically to international LL.M. students.
Community
UCLA law students are among the best and brightest and compose a robust, diverse, close-knit community. Each LL.M. cohort represents around 30-40 different countries, and together comprise a vast wealth of expertise and experience across numerous disciplines, offering fresh perspectives inside and outside of the classroom. Our LL.M. students look forward to one of the most intellectually stimulating, memorable, and exciting years of their lives as members of the Bruin family.
Location
Los Angeles is a dynamic, cosmopolitan cultural center unlike any other, boasting rich arts, recreational, culinary, and entertainment offerings that rival those around the world. Our lush, sprawling campus is ideally situated in Westwood, one of the most desirable neighborhoods in the city, just 15 minutes from the beach and within easy reach of L.A.’s iconic landmarks and vibrant communities.
