QUB School of Law receives recognition for commitment to gender equality
The School of Law at Queen’s University Belfast has been given the Athena Swan Silver Award for Commitment to Gender Equality.
This award recognises the School of Law’s outstanding commitment to advancing gender equality in higher education and reflects its dedication to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for all its students and staff.
The Athena Swan Charter was established by Advance HE to promote and recognise gender equality and diversity in higher education and research institutions worldwide. The Silver Award acknowledges departments that have demonstrated a significant impact and sustained commitment to addressing gender equality issues.
QUB’s School of Law has actively worked towards creating a culture of equality, diversity and inclusion within its academic community, in a variety of ways including:
- Promoting diversity in leadership – promoting increased representation of women in leadership roles.
- Supporting career development – developing enhanced career development programs for all members of the community.
- Creating an inclusive culture – implementing policies and practices that foster inclusive culture amongst staff and students.
Speaking about this great achievement, Head of School, Professor Joan Loughrey, says, “This is a wonderful achievement. We are very proud that the School’s commitment to gender equality has received this recognition. This has been made possible by the efforts of colleagues right across the School.” She continues, “I am absolutely delighted for the School and my colleagues, and we are committed to continuing our work in this space.”
